NOTICES
for SUNDAY 10 MAY 2026

Ascension Day
Thursday this week, 14 May, is the Feast of the Ascension and a Holyday of Obligation. Masses are at the usual times of 8am, 12.30pm and 7pm.

May Month
May is a month dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. You are encouraged to visit and pray in our Lady Chapel during this month. There is a free leaflet with prayers to the Virgin. Offerings of flowers are welcome – please just leave them in the Lady Chapel and we will make sure they are put in water.

Parish Synod Day
On Saturday 23 May, the eve of the feast of Pentecost, we will be holding the next event in our parish synod. At the invitation of Pope Francis, like parishes and dioceses around the world, we held our first synod meetings in January 2022 and followed this up with a meeting in June 2024. The aim of these prayerful reflections was to ask where each of us experienced the Holy Spirit leading the Church – both in our own local community, across Scotland, and in the wider world. The results of these reflections were shared with the Scottish bishops and directly with the Holy See. Next month, we aim to return to the themes you raised and to see how we have responded to those challenges. And then to plan the next steps for the Catholic community of Sacred Heart Church, Lauriston. In particular, we are asking everyone who exercises any sort of ministry or function here to attend. But the invitation is open to everyone who worships here. The synod event will begin at 2pm and finish at 5pm. Please make a note in your diary.

Music at 10.30am Mass Today
Before Mass: JS Bach (1685-1750) Machs mit mir Gott BWV957

RCIA
Please continue to keep in your prayers those who were baptized, received into the Church or confirmed at Easter as they continue their journey of reflection and discipleship in the phase of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) known as mystagogia – or the revealing of the mysteries of the faith.

Contactless Sunday Collection & Donation
We now have a permanent contactless payment machine in the narthex. This give you another option for making a contribution to the Sunday Collection or a donation. If you are a UK tax-payer, you can register your details and Gift Aid will automatically be claimed every time you make a donation. This increases the value of your gift by 25% at no additional cost to yourself. Once you have registered, you do not have to enter the personal information again when you use the same credit or debit card. Your personal data is not stored in the machine itself.

Financial Support for Sacred Heart Church
We rely on the generous financial support of those who worship in this church to keep the building and our mission in Edinburgh afloat.  The most helpful way of giving is by Standing Order, either monthly or weekly, as this allows us to predict income and plan ahead.  If you are a UK taxpayer, please also sign a Gift Aid form – this enables us to claim from the Government an additional 25p for every £1 you donate at no extra expense to yourself.  Standing Order and Gift Aid forms are available in the narthex.  If you have internet banking, you can set up a Standing Order online.

Church Refurbishment
Progress is being made laying the tiles in the side aisles. We are waiting for delivery of the hatches that will allow access to the crawl space beneath the floor. This is needed to maintain the heating system and the electrics of the building. The new tiles in the narthex are in a traditional French pattern which contrasts with the Spanish designs for the aisles, seating areas and the space at the front of the church. Please note that while work is done to lay the new floor at the back of the church, there will be days when you need to use the side door to enter, and days when the narthex toilet will not be available. Work on the new marble tiles for the sanctuary steps is due to start this week.

Northern Light Singers will perform a short choral concert celebrating Spring, “Bud & Blossom”, on Friday next week, 22 May, beginning at 7.30pm and including Sir James MacMillan’s Miserere. Tickets are £3 on the door online at events.humanitix.com/northern-light. All welcome.
