Pope Leo – First Encyclical Letter
More copies of Pope Leo’s first teaching letter (Magnifica humanitas) on Catholic Social Doctrine, human dignity and building a civilization of love, have arrived in the bookshop at £6.95 Contactless payment available.

Church Refurbishment
As you will see, work on the floor of the church is nearing completion. The tiles from Spain which will go on the area in front of the sanctuary (the “solea”) and the sanctuary steps are due to be installed in the coming week. The pattern of these white tiles has been chosen to match as closely as possible the only surviving marble step from the original sanctuary design of 1885 (the silver jubilee of the church). The three carved panels on the front of the altar are also from this time. Once the floor is complete, we will take delivery in instalments of the new oak benches.

Edinburgh Festival of the Sacred Arts 2026
Stewards Needed

The Edinburgh Festival of the Sacred Arts, which runs from Sunday 16 to Saturday 22 August, is an integral part of the Edinburgh Fringe. This year it includes 14 events, 8 tours and a week-long art exhibition, spread across nine city church venues, including Sacred Heart Lauriston. Each year we recruit stewards, usually students, to staff these events. The hours are by negotiation and the rate of pay this year will be £12 per hour. Stewards are normally guaranteed a minimum of 10 hours in the course of the week, but it can be more. An introductory meeting will be held on the morning of Saturday 4 July and successful applicants will be expected to attend on that occasion. If you are interested, please contact the Director of the Festival, Professor Gordon Graham, at gordon.graham@ptsem.edu

Universalis
The readings for Sunday and weekday Masses are available free online at the Universalis website. For a one-off payment of £9.99, you can access all the Mass texts and readings for the entire year and also daily prayer, the Divine Office of the Church. universalis.com

Bookshop
Our bookshop sells Mass cards, Sunday and weekday Missals, ESV Bibles (the translation now used at Mass), a wide range of books and booklets, as well as devotional objects such as rosaries, crucifixes and statues. It is open after Sunday Masses. We also have a second-hand book section with books on theology, church history and spirituality and more. Contactless payment is accepted. We still need volunteers to staff the bookshop for about 15 minutes after Mass on Sundays. If you can help, please get in touch at ejc@jesuit.org.uk

Financial Support for Sacred Heart Church
We rely on the generous financial support of those who worship in this church to keep the building and our mission in Edinburgh afloat. There are four ways you can contribute your Sunday Collection or donation:
1 By setting up a standing order with your bank (this can be done online if you have a banking app or online banking). Standing order forms are available in the narthex – just hand this to your bank.
2 By making a contactless donation on the new machine in the narthex.
3 By making an online donation using the QR code above.
4 By making a cash donation in the collection.
If you are a UK taxpayer, please also sign a Gift Aid form – this enables us to claim from the government an additional 25p for every £1 you donate at no extra expense to yourself. Gift Aid forms are available in the narthex. The new contactless machine also allows you to Gift Aid.
